Travel has, to some degree, resumed. Governmental restrictions, in many places, appear to be winding down. And there’s widespread hope that this current Omicron wave of Covid, as bad as it has been, may well signal the beginning of the end of the pandemic.
In Arival’s forthcoming research, the State of the Industry Outlook for 2022, which has now been published, the vast majority of operators — more than eight in 10 — are somewhat or very optimistic about their business prospects for 2022.
U.S. Operators More Optimistic than Most
There are important regional differences. Operators in the U.S. are most optimistic, buoyed by the strong domestic market and the expectation that governments will not impose further lockdowns or other restrictions which would impede domestic travel and participation in tours and attractions.
Ongoing restrictions and widespread uncertainty about the resumption of travel is driving more pessimism in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. European operators are more cautious in their optimism due to regulatory unpredictability.
While many challenges still abound and the pandemic continues to create uncertainty for our industry, we’re encouraged by the commitment and resilience of operators. We too are optimistic about 2022 and the winding down of this difficult period.
We fielded between October and December of 2021 and received 2,200 responses from operators around the world.
