Part-Time (Approx 20 hrs/wk)
Remote
Fast-growing startup seeking a part-time social media manager to support our marketing efforts. In doing so, we’ll provide the resources companies in the in-destination experiences in need to advance their business.
At Arival, we advance the business of creating amazing in-destination experiences, providing meaningful and inspiring events, resources, insights, and community for creators and sellers of tours, activities, and attractions. Our mission is to establish and inspire a diverse community of individuals and companies in the in-destination experiences industry by providing opportunities to gain insight, share knowledge and build connections. What kinds of companies are included in this sector? Operators of tours, activities, attractions and other experiences (think Joe’s kayak rentals, free walking tours, Disneyland, escape rooms, etc), Tour Guides & Directors, Experience Hosts, Distribution platforms (sites like Expedia, TripAdvisor, Viator, GetYourGuide, Klook, and many smaller platforms), Reservation technology providers, Other technology providers, Marketing Agencies, Trainers, Resorts, CVB’s, and more. You may be surprised to learn that this is a $254B industry (well it was in 2019) that is the third largest and fastest growing sector in travel.
We started Arival in 2017 with a conference, bringing together a diverse and fragmented industry. Some refer to that first event as the industry’s “Woodstock moment,” recognizing the shift it created as we launched a community.
Next, we refined & expanded our conference schedule, doubling our attendance numbers and holding events in North America, Europe and Asia, as well as providing articles and developing custom research to illuminate the data behind the sector.
Recently, we launched virtual events, like many across the events industry, and added a membership program to connect members with a lifelong community of creative, collaborative peers. We also launched a sector-specific job board and expanded our resource offerings And we’re far from done! We are helping elevate in-destination experiences within the larger travel industry, giving what we refer to as “The Best Part of Travel” the recognition it deserves as the driver of leisure travel. After all, no one goes on vacation because they love sitting in an airline seat.
Arival is creating and cementing a role at the crossroads of Experiences.
The Social Media Manager will coordinate and execute the company’s social media marketing and paid advertising plan with the objective of growing engagement and visibility across the platforms. While this is a part-time, remote position, you will be an integral member of the team, not siloed. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, creative individual with experience writing for B2B and a passion for connecting with current and future customers in the tourism and in-destination industry. You know an OTA from a DMO, understand how res tech fits into the picture and what operators think about when planning marketing, and can talk distribution and connectivity at the drop of a hat.

Why You Might Be Excited About Us
- We’re building a resource hub for the most dynamic and exciting sector of the travel industry. This is fun business.
- You’ll be able to work remotely and (mostly) set your own schedule. Arival was a fully dispersed team even before COVID, so we know what makes for a great remote environment.
- You’ll have a lot of flexibility in your role, and will be able to help define what our marketing infrastructure looks like going forward.
- We prioritize flexibility in our work environment and are a family-first company. We support each other professionally and personally.
Why You Might *Not* Be Excited About Us
- We’re small (~15 people in the company now), so if you like more established companies, this role isn’t for you. You’ll help create our company’s culture.
- We’re (still) a startup. Projects and priorities are likely to shift, morph and sometimes overflow our capacity. If you are not adaptable, this would be a difficult environment for you.
- We are putting the wings on as we fly the plane. If you aren’t comfortable with self-directed learning, taking initiative and checking in for confirmation of direction, this would be frustrating.
- Everyone on the team is mission-driven, we work hard to build the change we can envision. If you are looking for a job that has predictable demands, this isn’t it.
- You should be comfortable with just a dash of chaos. This is not the kind of job where you show up and we tell you exactly what to do every day.
- We are juggling a broad set of stakeholders, and it is necessary to take a systems view of the business to see what’s needed. If you can’t get out of the details, this will be difficult.
Compensation
- Market based compensation
- Flexible scheduling
- Plenty of room for professional growth as part of a small but growing team as we move the in-destination industry forward
Location
Our team works remotely, but you will have to be available to work on U.S.-friendly hours, which may be difficult from Europe or Asia. Preference given to candidates within 3 hours of ET.
