Lauren McCabe Herpich is the founder and owner of Local Food Adventures, a food tour and private events company that provides guided walking food tours throughout Oakland and the San Francisco Bay Area’s East Bay. Local Food Adventures was named by National Geographic as Oakland’s “How to Go” activity in its “2019 Best Places to Travel” list and has been awarded Best Tour in the East Bay by regional Diablo Magazine two years in a row in 2018 and 2019.
Lauren brings more than 15 years of marketing and communications experience to Local Food Adventures. Right out of college Lauren was hired as a news associate for CNBC’s Washington, DC bureau and then promoted to segment producer for its nightly political program “Capital Report,” where she covered the 2004 Presidential Election. Lauren then moved into corporate communications and talent management at Discovery Communications before being hired by the Public Broadcasting Service to manage branding efforts and promotions for its PBS Kids GO! programming and the launch of shows like WordGirl and Martha Speaks. After graduate school, Lauren was hired by Sears.com to lead digital marketing efforts including the management of social media and web development for more than 1100 Sears Hometown Stores across the country.
But as a self-professed “jill of all trades” and finding happiness in giving tours, Lauren has found her professional love in creating Local Food Adventures. Lauren started her tour guide “career” as an undergraduate campus tour guide and then as a part-time food tour guide for Chicago Food Planet while in graduate school. Lauren prides herself in building the entirety of her business, from the tours, to developing her own website to managing all of her sales, marketing and PR efforts.
Lauren has dual bachelor of arts degrees in Journalism and Media Arts from the University of Arizona where she graduated magna cum laude with Phi Beta Kappa honors and a master of science degree in Integrated Marketing Communications from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, Media and Integrated Marketing Communications. She also has a certificate in Media Management from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management.
Lauren is grateful to have the opportunity to work from home and raise her four-year-old son with her husband Chris while building Local Food Adventures. She donates $1 for every food tour guest to the Alameda County Community Food Bank.
