Summary of Job

Please Note: Must have Wisconsin Driver’s License and proof of an ATV/UTV operators safety certification course if born on or after January 1, 1988. Here is the link for more information on attaining the safety certification:

This position will entail the promotion of the Lincoln Park Zoo. The position will include presentations, working with Zoo Animal Curator and Education Curator. Animal care and grounds maintenance will also be key.
Responsibilities

  • Report to work on time as assigned. Zoo hours are 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
  • A weekly work schedule of 40 hours during zoo hours will be arranged with the Zoo Manager or designated staff
  • Abide by the policies and procedures established by the Department.
  • The normal work week will consist of 40 hours and will include work on some Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
  • Work with regular Park employees in assuring daily routine assignments are completed.
  • Communicates effectively with zoo guest by answering questions an enforcing zoo rules relating to public safety and feeding limitations.
  • Pick up all litter in your assigned area daily.
  • Clean restrooms thoroughly each day and inspect prior to leaving for the day.
  • Cut and trim all grass areas as needed.
  • Weed and cultivate shrubs, bushes and flowers at least once per week.
  • Perform other work duties as assigned.
  • Clean animal exhibits and pens.
  • Feed animals as assigned.
  • Help arrange and supervise special events at the zoo.
  • Performs zoo tours to groups while presenting information about the collection of exhibited animals.
  • Works with zoo staff to help provided information for the website and Facebook pages up to date.

Qualifications
Education:Pursuit of a degree in captive wildlife, animal husbandry, wildlife or related field.

Experience: Any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary interests desire, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform in the Zoo Intern position.

Certifications/Licenses:Must have Wisconsin Driver’s License and proof of an ATV/UTV operators safety certification course if born on or after January 1, 1988.

Other Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Communicate well with a variety of ages and user group both orally and written.
  • Ability to work independently with little direct supervision.
  • Provided good customer service.
  • Maintain a positive interest in animals and their welfare.
  • Work in a flexible team atmosphere

The City anticipates filling these positions pending Committee approval and funding.
