Hiring salary – $18 to $20 hourly
DEFINITION
This position is a temporary position that may work up to twenty hours (20) per week. The ideal candidate will provide office and staff assistance to the Brighton City Museum. Additionally, the ideal candidate will: catalogue and digitize photographs for museum collections; assist in storage preparations for State Repository items; assist members of the public, the Historic Preservation Planner, Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) and the Community Development Department with any research that is needed on property research or other topics as needed.

This position must work well in a group setting with peers and with the public, while providing excellent, respectful customer service and human relations skills, which support the City of Brighton’s mission and values.

Key functions include, orienting and hosting visitors with historical information, conducting tours, assisting with museum records and artifacts including storage and digitization of historic media as assigned that support research requests.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED This position is supervised by the Museum Specialist of the Community Development Department. The Museum Technician does not supervise others, but may act as the lead for museum volunteers.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIESOrients, hosts, and provides tours of the museum for visitors.
Properly organizes and archives the historic elements located within the museum.
Digitizes documents, photographs, and artifacts; performs data entry of material information and archival information, and properly organizes and archives artifacts, historic elements, and historic media.
Conducts research and responds to research requests
Accepts and tracks donations of new materials and documents them for processing and
accessioning into collections management system.
Assists the HPC, staff, and/or general public with historic research on educational materials, the Historic Properties Watch List, local landmark designations and related hearings, permits, and referrals.
Assists in the execution of public events on nights and weekends.
May perform other duties as necessary to assist the Community Development Department.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Proper handling procedures for historic materials is required.
Past Perfect Software (or similar collections management system) and standard museum practices regarding collections, archives, historical interpretation, artifact conservation, and educational programming.

Ability to: Be highly self-motivated, detail-oriented and organized.
Work independently with minimal direction, but also coordinate with other staff and the general public.
Demonstrate competence with computers and large scanners and input data with ease.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE A bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, in Public History, Historic Preservation, or Museum Studies is highly preferred.

Prefer a minimum of 1 year of experience working in a museum, library/archive, or historic setting. Knowledge of PastPerfect 5 and Microsoft Office are preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Valid Colorado Driver’s License with safe driving record.
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Ability to complete FEMA ICS 100 and IS 700 training within six (6) months of the date of hire.
This position is not eligible for benefits.
