Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The mission of the Zoo, Arts & Parks (ZAP) program is to enhance Salt Lake County residents’ and visitors’ experiences through cultural and recreational offerings. This in turn will stabilize, enhance, and support Salt Lake County’s arts and cultural community and provide ongoing economic development opportunities. The ZAP program is committed to fair and equitable access to Zoo, Arts & Parks funding, and educational resources.

The position is a paid internship reporting to the ZAP Director. Assist ZAP team to provide regional leadership, improve the effectiveness of the grant management process and support promotion of the program. Assist ZAP organizations within Salt Lake County in serving their communities.

The candidate will have an opportunity to learn skills from the different positions that are held within the ZAP team and the Arts & Culture division. A mentor will be assigned to guide and assist the intern’s development and growth.

  • MarCom (marketing and communications) related projects. Primarily, promotional/awareness efforts and event management for our summer:
  • Passport program,
  • Grantee local community outreach, and
  • Information stations

Applicants must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor OR Graduate program. Preferred programs are Marketing, Communications, Arts, and/or Government Administration.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties and responsibilities are intended to be representative of the work performed by the incumbent(s) in this position and are not all-inclusive.   • Assist in the delivery of the ZAP Summer Passport program, including marketing efforts, coordination with program partners, and assisting in the planning and execution of the final event in August.
  • Assist in providing technical and administrative support for ZAP awareness and educational events.
  • Assist in the day-to-day content creation for ZAP’s social media outlets – Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Instagram; and respond to inquiries and comments on ZAP’s social media channels promptly.
  • Assist in the creation of a monthly e-newsletter and website updates.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Assignments will be finalized based on the intern’s skills, interests, and learning objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Apply classroom learning in a real work environment
  • Acquire a functional understanding of a government cultural/arts program
  • Gain experience providing promotional-related technical and administrative assistance to the program and a wide array of cultural organizations
  • Gain hands-on experience in day-to-day communications tasks, including program and community-based social media promotion
  • Gain hands-on experience planning events and working with community partners and grantees
  • Develop familiarity with online MarCom systems
  • and ability to work well in a team environment while balancing individual work.

PAY: $16.00/hour

START DATE: The internship begins May 2025 (start date flexible) and ends August 2025. There may be the possibility of an extension.

Additional Information

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Interns will work from the Salt Lake County Government Complex with the opportunity for remote hours within the state of Utah. They will be provided a computer and an email account. Interns may be asked to attend meetings off-site, at other government facilities, or in the community. Interns may be sitting for long periods at a computer.

ZAP also has a ‘day’ in the office on Tuesdays for spending a few hours together as a team. We work with intern schedules flexibly for meeting the Tuesday time together.

Product delivery to stakeholders and tabling events should be handled in person.
