Asia may have been behind North America and Europe for recovery, but it’s now getting its turn with “revenge travel,” according to Asia-based online booking and channel management system GlobalTix CEO Chee Chong Chan.
“Asia is probably 10 months or a year behind Europe and the U.S,” explained Chan recently in a one-on-one interview Arival 360 | Orlando. “Right now what we are having is the revenge travel, all the numbers are picking up and everyone’s doing really well.”
“China’s probably a little bit slower than us and we are expecting to see a real recovery from China end of the year,” Chan continued, explaining recovery is being seen first among business travel, then independent travelers and small family groups, comprised mainly of middle to upper income families; large bus tour groups and lower income, first-time travelers will likely not come back until next year, Chan predicted.
Chan also discussed how res-tech adoption is on the rise for operators in Asia, as operators try to drive more direct bookings and cope with enduring staff shortages.
