About Me

Julia Browne pioneered Black heritage tourism in France in 1994. Born in Britain, raised in Canada, and resided in France for fifteen years, Julia founded the first existing Tour and Heritage Education company in Paris while a student at the Sorbonne’s Centre for African American Studies. Out of a love of history and for connecting stories, the tours and customized itineraries of Walking The Spirit Tours-Black Paris & Beyond have introduced countless travelers, students, and educators to the rich but lesser-known influence of Black history and culture in Europe, the UK, Washington DC, and Canada.

A seasoned travel professional, Julia Browne is an independent consultant and tour wholesaler under Vision Travel (Canada), an agency member of the luxury consortium Virtuoso. Julia works closely with tour operators, destination management companies, and travel agents in Europe and North America so that their leisure and business travelers connect to and enjoy exciting, thought-provoking Black heritage experiences during their journey. Thanks to passionate, knowledgeable guides, the company’s educational content seamlessly blends with local delights and leaves long-lasting memories on participants from universities to middle schools, museums to community outreach programs, special interest groups to family trips.

Once a filmmaker herself, Julia has partnered with documentary filmmakers Joanne and David Burke since 2002 on their African Americans in Paris series. She is the associate producer of their compelling documentary ‘Paris Noir – African Americans in the City of Light’. Also an award-winning broadcaster and a captivating speaker, she has been invited to speak at cultural organizations, film festivals, educational institutions, and special screenings including the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History, Hotel de Ville Paris, and the Musee des Beaux-Arts, Montreal.

This Conference Code of Conduct shares our community expectations and applies to all attendees, employees, exhibitors, speakers, sponsors, volunteers, and other participants at Arival- produced and sponsored events. Severe breaches of this Conference Code of Conduct may result in disqualification from participating in future events. Individuals expelled due to violating this Conference Code of Conduct will not be eligible for a refund or other consolation.
