Be a part of helping to protect Yellowstone as a Risk and Sustainability Specialist!
The Risk and Sustainability Specialist (RSS) is an integral member of the Risk and Sustainability Departments, providing on-location support at one of four locations in Yellowstone National Park. This position provides real-world experience, networking and mentorship opportunities, and professional growth activities. The RSS will assist with the monitoring and reporting of OSHA compliance, coordinating with safety and security leads on injury response, and facilitating safety training/meetings. On the sustainability side, the RSS Will work to promote the Green Star program, monitor environmental compliance and assist in developing new sustainable initiatives. The Risk and Sustainability Specialist will be expected to complete an end-of season project, the intention of which is to garner engagement across health, safety and/or sustainability from our staff of 3,000 seasonal employees.

- Full-time, seasonal position starting in April 2023 and ending October/November 2023.
- Location: You will be assigned to work at one of four properties in Yellowstone National Park.
- Your work schedule is typically 40 hours, 5 days/per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays). Time and a half is paid above 40 hours.

- Have completed or will complete degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Economics, Biological Science, Sustainability, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a similar relevant bachelor’s degree.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Risk and Sustainability Specialist – $19.00/hour
- Ensure Compliance with monthly location inspection programs including hazardous and universal waste, fire extinguishers, and eye-wash stations.
- Work with Learning & Development to ensure that new employee orientation and ongoing training efforts are consistently disseminated across locations.
- Coordinate on-location implementation of ISO 140001 EMS requirements including postings, signage and training.
- Coordinate injury report completion (both employee and guest), including completion, tracking and follow-up.
- Coordinate with recycling staff to ensure compliance with waste management guidelines and goals, evaluate program success and work with Sustainability staff to improve collection, signage, training and equipment.
- Attend weekly department manager meetings to represent risk and sustainability interests and provide support as needed.
- Work to improve focus on environmental efforts, within employee residences (waste sorting, sustainability, spotlight, updated signage, energy efficiency, etc).
- Conduct ongoing day-to-day visual assessments of risk and sustainability programs and identify areas for improvement, including inventorying light fixtures and E-Temp devices to ensure energy efficiency (etc.).
Qualifications
Qualifications include but are not limited to:
- Must be at least 21 years of age (in order to obtain DOT Driving Certificate).
- Must possess a U.S. driver’s license,a clean driving record and have valid vehicle registration and proof of insurance meeting company minimum requirements if using personal vehicle for company travel.
- Must have completed or will complete a degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Economics, Biological Science, Sustainability, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a similar relevant bachelor’s degree.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and proven ability to build productive relationships by positively interacting with coworkers and clients.
- Must have or be able to obtain CPR, first aid, and AED certification.
Physical Requirements included but are not limited to:
- Must be able to lift, push or pull bins with weights of 50-100 pounds on a daily basis.
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time and/or stand and walk throughout an 8-hour shift.
- Must be able to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical exam (provided by Xanterra’s partner clinic). Driver practice testing will be required once on location.
