Park Ranger/Hayride Operator -Zoo

Department: Park Services-Zoo Part-Time Hourly – Non-exempt

Position Description

The Park Ranger/Hayride Operator performs duties under the direct supervision of the Animal & Park Curator or Manager on Duty. General responsibilities include, but are not limited to providing exceptional customer service to Randall Oaks Park rental guests, while maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the park, transporting visitors on a hay wagon ride throughout the park and starting and maintaining bonfires during rentals. This is an at-will position.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Sets up and maintains the cleanliness of 3 park shelters and 6 picnic sites which includes, but is not limited to, emptying trash, leaf blowing, and general restroom maintenance.
  • Provides customer service assistance to all rental guests throughout the time of their scheduled event.
  • Loads passengers safely on and off hay wagon.
  • Transports visitors on a designated course through the park.
  • Oversees starting and maintaining bonfires.
  • Complies with all safety and loss prevention policies.
  • Inform supervisor of any unsafe conditions or hazardous work procedures.
  • Correct any unsafe conditions, if possible, and instruct co-workers on safety procedures.
  • Completes all additional duties as prescribed by management.
  • Assists other Park District employees when needed.

  • Employee represents the Dundee Township Park District in a professional manner.

Safety & Risk Management

  • Maintains a working knowledge of all general and departmental-specific safety rules.
  • Immediately reports all accidents and unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
  • Cooperates and assists in the investigation of accidents.
  • Attends all required safety program and in-service education meetings.
  • Treats public complaints and concerns with the utmost attention. Is courteous in all cases.
  • Pays strict attention to housekeeping of work area(s) and general facility.
  • Hold a current first aid/CPR certificate and keep staff current also.

Qualifications

  • Must be minimum of 18 years of age, with a valid driver’s license.
  • A high school diploma is a plus.
  • Prior experience driving tractor with trailer or operating mid-sized equipment a plus.
  • Excellent customer service skills; verbal communication skills and listening skills.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Good physical condition, sufficient strength, and mobility required.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to learn additional software and systems required for business transactions.
  • Possess good problem solving skills and has capacity to act rationally and calmly in high stress and/or emergencies.
  • Ability to pay meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to execute the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Employee must be able to follow directions and communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
  • Employee must have the ability to read and understand materials printed in English.
  • Employee must possess good problem solving skills and have the capacity to act rationally and calmly in high stress and/or emergency situations.
  • Must have the ability to develop and maintain positive and effective working relationship with subordinates and work in a team setting with enthusiasm.

Hours Standards

  • This is a seasonal part time position, generally less than 20 hours per week.
  • Hours are dependent on business needs, but will include day, night, weekends and holidays.
  • A set schedule may be available.
