The Opportunity: The Downers Grove Park District Museum is looking for a Museum Program Assistant to develop, implement and lead a variety of activities that delve into history. Encourage exploration and help reveal what life was like in the 1800’s and 1900’s, right here in Downers Grove!
Pay: $16 per hour
Benefits:Free Fitness Membership at 4500 Fitness; Various District discounts
Hours and Schedule: Position runs from May through December with an average of 15-20 hours per week. Potential to extend position into 2026. Normal work hours are flexible but typically average two weekdays a week between 9am and 4pm and one Saturday a month. Additional Saturdays and evening hours may be required as well.
Essential Functions:
- Cultivate, prepare and teach activities such as educational programs, parties and tours
- Assist the Museum Curator with exhibit development and maintenance
- Support the Museum Reception Desk, serving as an ambassador of the facility, as needed
- Maintain accurate records and alert Museum Staff to any issues or concerns
- Maintain courteous and effective communication between staff, participants and/or parents
- Follow and implement Downers Grove Park District policies and guidelines, including safety practices
- Performs all other duties and responsibilities not covered above, but directed by Downers Grove Museum Supervisor
- Attend staff meetings, trainings and special events
Requirements:
- Two years of coursework in history, anthropology, museum studies, education or a related field required
- Must be 18 years old or older
- Education and programming experience preferred
- Must be organized and efficient at planning and project management
- Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Must have a valid Illinois Driver’s license. (May need to drive on occasion for Museum programs and events.)
- CPR, First Aid and AED certification or a willingness to obtain certification within 30 days of employment. The Park District provides training.
