General Summary of Position

The Door County Museum and Archives is looking for enthusiastic and detail-oriented Museum Exhibit Assistants and interns to help create engaging exhibits in this limited-term, grant-funded position. This part-time role (24 hours per week) runs from mid-May through August and provides hands-on experience in exhibit fabrication, including mold making, casting, sculpting, woodworking, set construction, and thematic painting. Under the guidance of experienced staff, you’ll gain valuable skills in museum exhibit design and production while contributing to dynamic and immersive displays.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Participate in the fabrication of museum exhibits under the guidance of experienced staff.
  2. Learn and assist with various exhibit fabrication techniques and materials, including mold making, casting, sculpting, woodworking, set construction, and thematic painting.
  3. Assist in the preparation, assembly, moving and installation of exhibits.

General Job Functions

  1. Support the museum team in maintaining a safe working environment, following proper safety protocols and guidelines.
  2. Participate in training sessions on materials, techniques, and safety practices.
  3. Assist with organizing and maintaining tools and materials used for exhibit fabrication.
  4. Collaborate with museum staff to ensure exhibits meet quality and design standards.
  5. Assist with any other tasks as needed related to exhibit preparation and installation.

Training, Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Required Training and Experience

  1. Minimum age of 16.
  2. Valid driver license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  1. Interest in museum work, exhibit design and fabrication, or related fields (art, design, theater, architecture, etc.).
  2. Ability to learn and actively participate in hands-on projects.
  3. Ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a team.
  4. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
  5. Basic knowledge or experience in art, sculpture, woodworking, nature, history or related areas is a plus but not required.
  6. Ability to follow instructions and safety guidelines.
  7. Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
