POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Jet Boat Captain, this position is responsible for assisting the Jet Boat Captain to carry out all normal deck department duties aboard the boat such as anchoring, lookout, and safety of passengers. The entire crew must work together to accomplish the task of maintaining a safe, efficient and enjoyable workplace and therefore no crewmember is above any work needing to be done to meet this overall goal. The Jet Boat Deckhand will assist the Jet Boat Captain for the operation of providing river ferry transit services. Under the direction of the Jet Boat Captain the Deckhand must adhere to all United States Coast Guard regulations and company polices.
Examples of Duties

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Perform lookout/navigational watches while underway and safety/anchor/dock watches.
  2. Assist with normal maintenance andequipment.
  3. Assist with luggage handling and other chores inport.
  4. Assistwithmaintainingrecordsofdailyactivitiesasrequiredandmonitortheloadingandunloadingofcargoand passengers.
  5. Assist with the safety of passengers andcrew.
  6. Provide exemplary customer relation skills.
  7. Assistwithactivitiessuchasloadingandunloadingcargo,Participateinboatfueling,stockpileofsuppliesand cleaning asneeded.
  8. Utilize a two-way radio to communicate with theDispatcher.
  9. Deckhand must be willing to work five days a week, weekends, split shifts, holidays and in all weather conditions.
  10. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  1. G3: High school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
  1. Employees must be willing to acquireanyspecialcertificationsorattendanytrainingthatisdeterminedtobe relevant or becomes required of the position in the future.
  2. Candidates with equivalent combinations of education, training and experience will be considered.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Knowledge of the Klamath River and river channeled.
  2. One year experience as a Deckhand or equivalent.
  3. Valid Driver’s License.
  4. First Aid/Prerequired.
  5. Must pass pre-employment drug screen, reference checks and background checks.
  6. Must have sufficiently acute hearing, eyesight and depth perception to meet the demands.
  7. Must have excellent public speaking skills; past tour guide experience preferred but not necessary.
  8. Must be capable of using escape hatches and boarding /disembarking survival craft unassisted.
  9. Obtain Swift Water Rescue Training.
  10. Recognition that in order to serve Yurok People one must know as much as possible about Yurok history, culture and values.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

  5. Position could require travel and occasional work outside of regular work schedule.

Part-time employees who work an average of 30 hours per week
over the course of a year, receive benefits on a pro-rated basis.
