Adventure Park Supervisor

Ensures the safety of patrons in and around the Adventure Course, Goliath Ladder and the Climbing Wall by preventing and responding to emergencies. Under close supervision of the Adventure Park Supervisor and Recreation Supervisor and performs professional duties in ensuring effective performance of Adventure Park Guide functions. Reports and coordinates in ensuring safety of patrons in and around the Park/Wilderness Activity Center. A head guide will enforce all safety rules and act as an example to all other adventure park guides. The Adventure Park Head Guide is also professional, courteous and efficient while in the work place. Assemble, dissemble and inspect necessary equipment throughout shift. Act as an example and encourage coworkers to complete daily tasks and make sure they are done in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Available to work a combination of weekdays, weekend, holidays and occasional weeknights
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures
  • Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures
  • Possess physical ability and stamina to sit and stand for several hours outside in the sun
  • Ability to accept and adjust to constructive criticism

Focus

Tasks, Duties

  • Perform tasks as directed by Adventure Park Supervisor and Recreation Supervisor
  • Execute job functions in accordance with specified departmental goals
  • Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency
  • Respond quickly, intelligently, decisively and in accordance with established emergency and accident management procedures
  • Perform various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility
  • Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services
  • Enforce all Adventure Park rules in a consistent manner
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
  • Present professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintain a high standard of customer service
  • Identify potential accident hazards
  • Work diligently and cooperatively with other departments

Communication/Team Involvement

  • Communicate with other Adventure Park Guides, Head Guides and Supervisors to increase productivity
  • Alert Adventure Park Supervisor or Recreation Supervisor to any issues that may require attention
  • Participate in the feedback loop that includes staff members at all levels to underscore the resort’s team-oriented culture
  • Handle daily operations with a positive and professional attitude, courtesy and tact

Decision-Making, Judgement, and Initiatives

  • Follow daily assignments to ensure efficient task completion
  • Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions
  • Be able to identify emergency situations and respond accordingly

Professional Development and Mentoring

  • Complete requisite on-the-job training
  • Attend staff developmental meetings and inservices
  • Attend additional training functions as directed
  • Skill in the application of patron surveillance and rescue techniques.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical skill evaluation as stipulated by the department (Adventure Park training and exam)

Additional Duties of Adventure Park Head Guide:

  • Performs all Adventure Park Guide responsibilities including but not limited to: applying first aid, and performing rescues and filling out reports as necessary
  • Ensures that participants are well supervised on the course, ladder, and rock wall
  • Performs all necessary opening and closing duties to ensure the safety of the course and cleanliness of the facility
  • Keeps management and on-duty supervisor well informed of maintenance needs including but not limited to: cleaning, adjustments made on course, and repairs
  • Interfaces with patrons regarding concerns, problems, or any other significant issues if a Supervisor is not present. Provides input and feedback while responding to problems.
  • Organize and clean the gear room, employee break room and the front lobby/desk

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms frequently. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100+ lbs.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally is exposed to wet and dry conditions, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is moderately loud when in the facility and outdoors. The employee may be exposed to stressful situations as a result of human behavior.
