Job Title: Research Specialist

Job Summary: Under very general supervision, the Research Specialist uses specialized knowledge in research design obtained through experience and training to manage research projects at ACCESS, many of which are multi-disciplinary and multi-sector in nature. The Research Specialist plans, collects and analyzes data and writes reports.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create and deliver presentations on research projects and initiatives
- Develop and post research-related communications products including social media posts, flyers, etc.
- Together with communications department, create and disseminate marketing materials
- Create content and build digital presence for research projects
- Ensure recently published research is catalogued within the Russell J. Ebeid Library & Resource Center’s guidelines
- Design, executes, and interpret research projects, and perform complex workshops and data collection techniques
- May Respond to research requests and manage research projects across the organization
- May facilitate monthly meetings of the ACCESS Research Team
- May Provide administrative support for research projects, including writing progress reports, sending follow-up notes, and managing relationships with stakeholders
- May conduct original research for museum-related exhibitions
- May independently or with a team plan and execute dynamic programming and events such as trainings and conferences
- Review progress of assignments with senior management
- Balance conflicting resource and priority demands
- Operate standard office equipment and use required software applications
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Advanced concepts, principles and practices of Arab American, Ethnic and Middle Eastern history and current events
- Research processes in humanities, social sciences and/or public health
- Advanced knowledge of publications and literature regarding Arab Americans preferred
Skill in:
- Managing multiple, intersecting projects
- Writing effectively for a variety of audiences
- Public speaking
- Utilizing online platforms, including various social media and virtual meeting platforms
- Operating standard office equipment and using required software applications for program area and other applications, including Microsoft Office
Ability to:
- Independently research facts and information
- Partner with other functional areas to accomplish objectives
- Plan, initiate, and implement effective programs, projects and services
- Facilitate meetings, ensuring that all viewpoints, ideas and problems are addressed
- Gather information, identify linkages and trends and apply findings to assignments
- Organize and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Handle logistics for a dynamic event (such as a conference)
- Create and host virtual and in-person meetings and webinars
- Take notes during meetings and write effective summaries
- Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Create PowerPoint and other slide-based presentations
- Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Write routine reports and correspondence
- Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment
Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:
- Minimum Degree Required:
- Master’s degree
- PhD preferred
- Required Disciplines:
- Humanities, Social Sciences, Public Health, Public Administration or related field
